The FIA have come out with a ludicrous piece of research stating how different all the world championships would have been if things were different.
Like when Biff stole the sports Almanac and became a multi millionaire and thus changing the entire landscape of the town, only to be thwarted by Marty McFly.
Apparently if we apply the proposed medal system to past championship, Mansell would have been three times world champion in Biff/Bernies alternate universe, Prost would have managed five and Piquet would have lost all three of his.
Of course this particularly daft piece of research is thwarted by the fact that if the races could well have panned out differently if a win was vital for a championship where otherwise a 5th place might do (cough, Lewis).
And not to go too Ray Bradbury on your arses, but if a championship winner changed in one year then it might have an effect on contracts and team choices and sponsor decisions and rivallries and drivers deciding to retire and yadda yadda yadda.
But maybe McFly wouldn’t have become such a big popular band if Mansell had have won in 1986…
