Heikki and Team Lotus accept the A.D.U.T.A. award

by Terry Saunders on 24/01/2011

The hotly contested (ish) Anthony Davidson Underdog Trophy Award (not at all endorsed, or even known about, by Anthony Davidson) for 2010 ended with the double for Team Lotus, winning best constructor and best driver for Heikki Kovalainen.

The lovely people at Team Lotus invited us to the factory last week to present the award and today it has been officially passed on to officially The Best Finnish Driver in history to have touched something that me and Kevin has touched.

Heikki is in the factory today only to receive the trophy, and not at all to do some tests on the new car or other important stuff.

The A.D.U.T.A award is a hark back to the Colin Chapman Trophy of the 80′s when the normally aspirated cars couldn’t compete with the turbo-charged challengers of the day.

We took the three new teams of Lotus, Virgin and HRT and award 80′s style points for the top finishers from those teams and then added points for style, being chipper in hard circumstances or a genuinely fantastic cockup and deducted points for boring failures, grumpiness and not being cool.

Team Lotus were ahead for most of the year and Heikki got an extra haul of points for putting out his own fire at Singapore.

A big thanks to Team Lotus for being great sports and inviting us to the factory (full podcast special and mini-film to come) and here’s hoping that the team isn’t an underdog this year and therefore can’t retain their trophy.

They’ve posted this on their Facebook Page so you probably ought to go along, “like” it, and say nice things
