Virgin’s CFD needs more RAM
by Terry Saunders on 7/02/2011Virgin have today lanched their 2011 F1 car and, despite this not being a techinical Formula One website by any stretch of the imgaination, even I can see that this is a boring car.
It’s got not fancy bits, no sweeping thingies, no aggressive wotsits or innovative roll doo-dahs.
Virgin famously eschew a wind tunnel in favour of full CFD (computerised Something Something) to use big computers to do all the fiddly bits.
But the big problem, as all experts will tell you, with this system, is that if you only give the computer a child’s crayon drawing of an F1 car, you’re not going to get a great design.
Aiming to get in the midfield this year we’ll think they’ll do it, as they’re being lapped.
