Andale!

There is talk of F1 moving back to Mexico and using a grand old track (Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez) and not a modern day Valencia bore.

The Mexico GP circuit

Personally, the old Mexico Grand Prix brings fond memories, as not only did the light air totally fuck with the cars engine intake and drivers endurance, but also Murray Walker’s voice.

The other thing about the Mexican Grand Prix in the 90′s was the quirk of world time zones. I remember on more than one occasion the BBC (in an age that now seems so primative in our world of iplayer and red button coverage) would show highlights of the race and then, with ten minutes or so to go, would actually join the end of the race live, leading to very disjointed coverage and terrible quality TV pictures.

I sincerely hope that if the Mexican GP does come back that the BBC (or whoever broadcasts F1 by then) keeps up this tradition.

Likewise, shove the qualifying in amongst the golf and athletics on Saturday’s Grandstand, like the good old days.

If F1 goes back to Mexico,I dont think it will go back to the track that we all know and love, because if you’ve seen the venue lately, it is a shadow of its former self, A1GP went there, so did Champcar and NASCAR, it is riddled with more chicanes, the final bend cannot be taken without either a ridiculously show chicane before the turn begins, or by taking a detour through the baseball stadium that has been built on the inside of that turn, there is also a freeway that was built on top of the gravel trap that senna rolled into in 1991.

    If you havent:-
    A1GP in 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvvxGZcNpiU
Champcar in 2003: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVmyhLPNNDk (ex-Jordan and Midland driver Tiago Montiero on front row)
NASCAR Nationwide (The GP2 series of Stock Cars) Y’all 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMtBQFULzBc&feature=related (originally NASCAR were worried that the cars would not slow down quick enough for turn 1, hence the painted lines of the original chicane being still on the tarmac, oh and Juan Montoya turned up)

The Cancun proposal was slightly ridiculous, http://theracingline.net/racingcircuits/racingcircuits/Mexico/Cancun%202006.gif but that was in 2006 and obviously didn’t happen.
